Why RemodelFinder Exists
Getting a remodeling estimate used to mean calling three contractors, waiting a week for callbacks, and sitting through sales pitches before you even knew if the project fit your budget. Or you'd Google "how much does a kitchen remodel cost" and get a national average that told you almost nothing about your actual market.
RemodelFinder is the thing I wanted before starting my own projects. A fast, free answer to "what should I expect to pay in my ZIP code?" before I picked up the phone.
The estimates come from real data. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data for construction trades, Zillow home values at the ZIP level, regional ROI figures from the annual Cost vs. Value report, and contractor demand patterns that adjust for the current month and your local climate. None of it is made up. All of it is sourced and documented on the methodology page.
There's no signup, no lead form, no contractor referral network charging for your contact info. The tool is free because the data is public and the math isn't complicated. Putting it together in one place is what takes work.
Right now RemodelFinder covers ten common home improvement projects across all 26,000+ US ZIP codes. The goal is to keep expanding: more project types, more granular data signals, and eventually comparison tools that help you see how your market stacks up against neighboring areas.
If you find an estimate that looks wrong, or a data point that seems off for your area, I want to hear about it. The tool gets better when real homeowners push back on the numbers.
